A powerful oxidizer. Below 100° it slowly decomposes; at about 115–120°C the process accelerates and explodes. Explosive reaction with pentaamineazidocobalt(III) perchlorate + phenyl isocyanate. organic materials (e.g., pinene, acetone, ethanol, ether), primary aromatic amines (e.g., aniline, toluidines, xylidines, mesidine). Ignition on mixing with urea. Incompatible with metal salts. When heated to decomposition it emits very toxic fumes of NO_x and Cl⁻. See also PERCHLORATES.
